The Malaysian Panel-Products Manufacturers’ Association (MPMA) has been the voice of Malaysia’s plywood and panel products industry since its establishment in 1965. Originally founded as the Malaysian Plywood Manufacturers’ Association, the organization was formed to promote the manufacture and usage of plywood both locally and internationally. Over the years, its scope grew beyond plywood, and in 1991 the name was officially changed to the Malaysian Panel-Products Manufacturers’ Association to better represent the broader panel industry, including MDF, chipboard, and OSB products.
MPMA was created to provide a common platform for manufacturers to address shared challenges, strengthen cooperation, and enhance the competitiveness of the industry. Its key objectives include promoting exports of plywood and panel products, setting quality standards for manufacturers, improving production efficiency, and collecting market data for the benefit of members. The association also maintains close collaboration with government agencies and research institutions such as the Forestry Department, Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM), Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB), and the Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) to ensure alignment with national policies and sustainable industry development.
From its humble beginnings with only seven founding members, MPMA has grown into a strong industry body with 61 full members—spanning Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak—and 30 associate members from related industries. Membership provides valuable exposure to both domestic and international markets, along with timely updates on industry developments, policies, and global trade opportunities.
Today, MPMA continues to play a vital role in uniting the panel products industry, promoting Malaysian-made products in global markets, and driving innovation, efficiency, and sustainability across the sector.

The Malaysian Panel-Products Manufacturers’ Association (MPMA) was established in 1965 with a mission to represent Members’ interests in the Malaysian plywood and panel industry. The main activities include promote the export of plywood and panel products, working closely with government departments in the pursuit national policies in relation to wood-based industries and engagements with industry stakeholders.
